Welcome to Sexual Education 101.
As three students from a Women's Studies course in a small midwestern town, we were given the task of exploring and acting on an issue relating to women and/or gender on our campus. Two of us are currently seniors and the other is a freshman who all attend Northern Illinois University. We all believe in women's rights and gender equality and strive to expand our knowledge further on these topics. We strive to focus on the experiences of women, meanings of gender and sexuality, the significance of feminism, as well as understanding ones experiences across race, age, culture, class, and sexual identity in the American society. This is why we chose this issue for our Action Research Project.

As far as sexual health, we were focused on improving sexual health on campus by expanding students knowledge of Sexually Transmitted Infection prevention, as well as the understanding and comfort with ones own body. Addressing sexual health on campus is important because it allows students to be able to attain knowledge and information on safe sex practices while in college. Improving this health can help STI prevention as well as the understanding and comfort with one’s own body. This will address college-aged students who will become advocates for sexual health along with their own attitudes and behaviors regarding sex.
While sexual health is an important topic in regards to both genders, it is especially important for women. Women receive the short end of the stick when it comes to sexual health, birth control, and body image because there are many more factors that are involved in staying safe. Women should be aware of this problem and realize that there is definitely a sexual double standard going on between genders.
As students on Northern Illinois University's campus and as a part of our Women's Studies course, we understand that there is a lot to take into account when it comes to sexual health and being comfortable in your own body. Women must understand and be aware of the oppression that we face, as well as the opportunities that we have to be healthy and strong women. Feel free to explore our site to learn more!
